Corsica, France

Vermentinu

Vermentinu (also known as Vermentino in Italy) is indigenous to Italy, Sardinia and Corsica. Dry grown on the Island of Corsica, a 5-hour ferry ride off the South coast of France, this variety is the most popular of the white wine varieties in the region. Hand-picked from old vines, these grapes are held at cool temperature overnight, giving the juice time to mascerate with the grape skins. The must is pressed, keeping the free-run juice and the pressings separate, so that Rose keeps control throughout the winemaking process up until the final blending is required.

Côtes de Provence, France

Cinsault & Grenache

This classic dry, delicate and savoury style of Provence Rosé is made from Cinsault (50%) and Grenache (50%) from a 70-90 year old vines, from a Domaine located 50 metres from the Mediterranean Sea, between Toulon and St Tropez in the South East of France. Each year, Rose goes to France to do vintage in September at the Domaine then, 5 months later, she returns to France to create the most balanced and delicate blend of Cinsault and Grenache, bottling and bringing it home to Australia.

2013

Corsica, France

Rare Red Blend

This wine is carefully created as a fascinating ensemble of rare indigenous grape varieties grown only on the Island of Corsica, a 5 hour ferry ride off the South coast of France. For almost 1000 years these varieties prospered on the Island before being pulled out in the mid 1950’s – 1990’s and replaced by Shiraz and Grenache. Some old vines were found in tiny quantities, and over the past 25 years a program has begun to replant these unique and ancient varieties on Corsica. These varieties include Minustellu, Niellucciu and Carcaghjolo Neru.  Rose adds some Syrah (Shiraz) to the wine for softness and to create a connection, on the palate, between the varieties.

McLaren Vale, Australia

Cabernet & Shiraz

This incredible fruit that Rose and her team hand-picked each year came from 50 year old Cabernet and Shiraz vines grown on the original family estate in McLaren Vale. Planted in 1969 by Rose’s father-in-law Frank Harrison, this vineyard has been carefully maintained to produce some of the best fruit in the region.

Shiraz Tempranillo Mourvedre

This new wine celebrates Shiraz as the hero variety and Tempranillo as the welcome and complimentary alternate variety. The result is a wine of bright cherries overlaying rich plums and blue fruits. The fruit is sourced from 3 McLaren Vale growers of whom Rose has long standing relationships – DiFabio, Bondar and Zerella families. The Shiraz and Tempranillo are from a vineyard in Clarendon, while another parcel of Shiraz and the Mourvedre is from Blewitt Springs, and the final 2 parcels of Shiraz and Tempranillo are from the heavier soils near Aldinga Beach.

Tempranillo & Shiraz

This new wine celebrates the way in which Tempranillo and Shiraz can work in harmony to bring out the best in each variety. The Tempranillo, with its savoury cherries, a lick of spice and soft but persistent tannins find support and added complexity from the rich ripe plums and blue fruits of the Shiraz. Quality fruit is sourced from 3 vineyards in McLaren Vale – DiFabio, Bondar and Zerella families. The Shiraz and Tempranillo are from a vineyard in Clarendon, another parcel of Shiraz is from Blewitt Springs, and the final 2 parcels of Shiraz and Tempranillo are from the heavier soils near Aldinga Beach.

Sparkling Shiraz

This wine is a labour of love; a folly made lovingly by hand – hand riddled, hand disgorged, hand labelled and finally hand packed into cartons. Cellaring for many years, it is being released from Rose’s cellar and made available for gifts, Christmas lunch pleasure or further cellaring.
